Introduction to Hatha Yoga

This class introduces yoga newcomers to the fundamentals of this ancient Indian practice, with an explanation of asana poses, breathing techniques, meditation and the importance of movement and breath alignment. This series of classes also introduces students to mudra (gestures), pranayama (breath control) and the ujjayi form of breathing, which enhances the yoga experience. Students will explore the mental and emotional sides of yoga through meditation techniques to calm the mind and ground the body. Each class concludes with meditation practice. After grasping the pillars of yoga, participants will develop a full range of movement and flexibility.
